NOW IS THE TIME

You’ve heard the news.

2022 is the year of the great resignation. If you’ve been on the fence about role searching, we’re here to tell you that now is the time to throw your hat in the ring.

According to SEEK, there are 50% more roles on the market than this time versus last year and 30% more roles than in 2019 (pre-pandemic). To top it off, vacancy ads are experiencing 40% less applications… You’re not a recruiter and you’re sitting here reading these stats thinking – why in the world do these numbers matter to me?

Well, happy job seeker, they matter because as an applicant in 2022, each and every role you apply for is less competitive than ever. With 40% less people applying for that role you have your eye on, you’re more likely to score the interview and more importantly, get that dream role under your belt.

Are these numbers still not ‘doing it for you?’ Not quite enough to get you to throw that cute, fashionable hat in the job application ring? Consider yourself like almost 60% of Australia right now. 60% of Australian’s are worried that if they do make a move into a new role, it might not turn out to be the right move for them. Meaning 60% of you are scared that moving into a new job in 2022 is high risk! Trust us when we say that it is not.

We get it. Numerous lock downs have put many of us in a position to feel genuinely worried that moving to a new role will result in a lack of stability. We don’t want to mention the C-word, but we’re all thinking it. It can be hard to assess whether making a move to that new prospective employer is high risk or not.

Let us share our tool kit with you. How can you remove the risk and make a safer assessment of whether now is the right time for you to consider a new job?

1.     If you’re itching for change, the only way to work out which direction is right for you is to start exploring. Start role searching on a job search website or talk to a mentor about tips on what your next step might look like.

2.     Do some desktop research. Google is your oyster when it comes to understanding the job market. Look into salary averages for your industry and role, read up on company backgrounds, financial reports, position descriptions, explore blended and changing role titles … immerse yourself into the world of research and see how you feel after a little exploration.

3.     Scared of the move because you feel unclear about your career goals? Enter, SEEK. SEEK has developed some amazing tools that can help you work out how to find your way into your dream role, or how to get out of that rut you’re stuck in. We’ve linked the tools here.

4.     Talk to people who work at companies of interest. If you already have someone in your network, reach out. Otherwise, harness the power of Linkedin and connect with people who work at that business you have your eye on.

5.     Throw your hat in the ring and go to some interviews (in the wise words of Nike, just do it). The best way to learn about a company’s culture is by sitting in front of someone who works there. Apply for roles of interest and say yes to those interviews.

6.     Ask the right questions in the interview and look for cultural green and red flags. Questions like, ‘how did your business navigate the pandemic?’ or, ‘how has the business performed post pandemic?’ or ‘what skills can this role help me develop?’. This style of question will help you understand what happens inside, how well a company is performing and will help you understand the risk.

A new role can help you boost your career across all touch-points. New mentors, a higher salary, new learning opportunities, a diverse background of experience and a fresh scene to re-inspire you after a couple of pretty tough years.

There are so many reasons to throw your hat in the job-searching ring right now. In fact, we think there are more reasons than ever. And if you’re still sitting on the fence (in a fashionable dress and cute pair of heels) feeling the itch but the nerves of the same time, there’s only one thing left to do. Talk to your favourite fashion recruiters about which company might be a fit for your next career move.

Our inboxes are waiting.

With love,

Team Relier
