What2Wear: to your next fashion interview…
How exciting! An interview with a brand you love can be an amazing opportunity to show your personality, skillset and overall passion for a company. Now that we are progressing out of zoom-only interviews, it’s time to put your best foot forward in the face-to-face world.
We ALL know that first impression is so crucial, so it's important you nail this when first walk into that room. Of course, the outfit is just a first impression, but we know you'll really blow 'em away with your smarts and thoughtful answers. Our number one Relier hot tip when it comes to interview dressing is that it’s uber important to dress as if you already work for the business (bonus points if you actually wear a current season item from the brand). Adding your personal flare to their brand style is sure to leave a great impression on how you will fit to the brand.
Okay… so …. let’s set the scene… you're prepping for the interview, resume in hand, address in google maps, but the real question is…
Let's dive into 4 key fashion staples you can channel for your interview, you'll look like a boss in no time.
1. The staple...
A blazer. Yep, I said it. Everyone needs a classic blazer in their wardrobe. This can elevate any look to smart casual (the ultimate dress code for a fashion interview). Bonus points if you pair this blazer back with a matching pant to create a suiting set. At Relier, we love a girl-boss power suit. 2. The classic...
What do we think of when we think professional... A button-up, white blouse. It's classic, timeless and really sets the scene for a professional interaction. Luckily, these never go out of fashion and are always evolving with the trends - so you can still have fun with a fashion look whilst ticking the professionalism check box as well. Here are some of my favourites, especially for that interview of yours!
3. The footwear...
Footwear can make or break your outfit. It changes the tone, tops off the look and is often the most important piece of the puzzle in making a statement about your personal style. It's important to be comfortable, but stylish and appropriate for an interview setting. I've picked my favourite selection of styles to help you strut your stuff into that interview. Depending on the brand aesthetic, I like either a sneaker, loafer or chic mule. Take hints from how the shop floor team style their outfits if you are unsure.
4. The accessories...
Accessories are just those little pieces to tie a whole look together. Layering jewellery is at an all-time high in fashion styling. A few necklaces paired back with some sophisticated earrings, you're sure to look like a golden candidate. My top picks are below…
Here’s an example of how I’m loving wearing my layered gold pieces at the mo. I think this layered styling is a great way to make a stylish impression in your next interview setting …
