the perfect interview outfit

When preparing for a job interview, we know there is so much to think about; from articulating your skills, to collating your questions and everything in between. Making time to consider and plan your interview outfit is equally as important, after all you’re applying for your dream role and first impressions count.

Lucky for you, your favourite fashion recruiters have created the perfect interview styling guide to set you up for success and show off your personality in a polished and refined manner.

TIP ONE: Stay true to your authentic style.

When going to your interview, you want to feel comfortable and confident. Choose something that speaks to your authentic style and your personality. For instance, if you prefer to wear suit pants on a regular basis over a midi skirt then stick to that. You want to show that you have elevated taste and look natural enough that your interviewer can expect that this is what you’ll look like on a regular basis.

TIP TWO: Incorporate the brand's aesthetic.

If you’re interviewing for a specific fashion house then you should make an effort to dress to the brand’s aesthetic. You most definitely don’t need to wear that designer head to toe, however incorporating a piece from the brand will show the interviewer how you understand the brand and that the interview is important to you.

TIP THREE: Tone it down.

Your outfit should set the tone for who you are, but not distract from the interview. We recommend sticking with neutral tones and avoiding anything that is a little OTT. For instance steer clear of logos, transparent blouses, short skirts and too high heels. Opt for something more elevated such as a tonal suit, midi dress, classic trench and minimal jewellery. After all, it’s not a runway show but an opportunity to showcase your resume, skills and background.

TIP FOUR: Keep it clean.

Always ensure you have clean, neutral polished nails, groomed hair and natural makeup. Stay true to your personal style, just give it some extra polish.

We have put together two our favourite interview classics that will go a long way towards landing that dream job.
