Get to know our newest recruit with us.

First things first, how did it all begin? What was your first role in fashion and what inspired you to start a career in retail?

My retail journey began as a Christmas Casual at Bardot. I quickly developed a passion for styling, connecting with customers, and mastering the operational aspects of the job. As I advanced to a senior stylist role, my interest in leadership and team management grew, paving the way for my progression into management positions.

You’ve held some incredible roles for some big brand names, tell us about one of your most pivotal career moments to date?

The most pivotal moment in my career was when I stepped into the role of Business Boutique Manager at Scanlan Theodore. There were times I felt stuck, knowing I was destined for more but unsure of what that looked like. Fortunately, my mentors guided me through this journey, leading me to a career in the People & Culture industry. My passion for leadership truly blossomed in this role, thanks to the incredible leaders who supported my development. Their guidance and advocacy paved the way for my exciting promotion to Assistant State Manager, where I oversaw recruitment for all of Queensland.

What led you to consider an internship  and how did you know it was time for a shift from the shop-floor life?

Transitioning from the shop floor to a more strategic role in People & Culture has been a long-term goal for me. When I enrolled in my HR Graduate Program, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to take that leap. As a recruitment intern, this experience allows me to refine my skills in a focused way, moving beyond day-to-day operations to gain a deeper understanding of HR practices and strategy. It's a pivotal step towards achieving my career aspirations in the field of People & Culture.

What does a typical day in the office look like for you in your new role at Relier?

To enhance my recruitment skills, I've delved deeper into the operational aspects that aren't typically part of the shop floor experience. I'm now involved in crafting job ads, updating our website, data-input for our recruitment platform, and attending engaging (and yes, FUN!) team meetings to stay informed and connected.

It’s only been a few weeks, but how do you see this internship impacting your long term career goals? And what are your words of wisdom for those out there considering whether or not an internship can add value to their resume and career?

It will be a fantastic opportunity to hone and refine my recruitment skills, an essential aspect of human resource management. My mindset is shifting from a retail manager to a recruitment professional. Much like a retail leader, we have the ability to truly impact people’s lives, just in different ways!
As for some words of wisdom: any role is only what you make of it! Take risks and step outside your comfort zone because you never know where it might lead you. An internship is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skillset and add the value YOU WANT to your resume!

And finally, we do work in fashion, darling, so what’s the next purchase on your wardrobe Wishlist?

My next wardrobe wishlist item would definitely be something stylish and versatile like the Rosie Linen Set at DISSH! It's ideal for capturing that effortless Gold Coast vibe.

We are thrilled to welcome Cassie to the team. To stay up to date with Cassie and her career moves, connect on Linkedin x
