A day in the life of the one and only Relier Recruitment & Marketing Assistant

Jess here to give you the 411 on my role and a day in my Relier life. If you don’t know me, you should, because I’m all over your Linkedin like a rash (a nice rash) and I’m the cutest recruiter on earth (my boss wrote that and made me post it).

If you share the same passion for Retail and people as me, firstly, you’re a vibe, and secondly, a role like mine is exactly what you need in your life.

So what was my journey to actually land this fancy pants role?

When I left school, I took on a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, majoring in HR, Marketing and Psychology. I chose this degree because I wanted to learn about business operations and how to influence workplace culture and performance. The marketing side of things was just something I thought I could have up my sleeve. But in saying that, I now finally understand the hype and am so glad I chose this major too.

While I was on the shop floor, I knew what kind of role I wanted to get into... I just had no idea what steps I needed to take to get there. I realised early on that my passion lay with people. I loved the idea of influencing team dynamics and positive culture and knew HR was for me (tick tick tick for selecting the right major). My roles on the floor have always made me feel sure that I wanted to pursue this career in the industry I love, Retail.

I scored my role with Relier through a direct networking opportunity with Lauren. She approached me for a role with our client Bec + Bridge, which I was successful in. But due to COVID, my role was soon made redundant. So little old confident me, called Lauren and asked if she had any other opportunities for me in her portfolio. To my surprise, Lauren had just started planning for her first ever team member at Relier and planned on advertising the role within a week or so of my call. I naturally applied for it, and well, the rest is history.

You know how we bang on about networking and how it really can get you places degrees can’t? Well, I’m living proof of that.

Let’s explore a day in the life of the Relier Recruitment & Marketing Assistant ….

The way I structure my day has a bit of everything thrown into it, depending on our client needs and role priorities. On the rare occasion, I do schedule in days that are either predominantly marketing focused or predominantly purely recruitment fcoused. But generally speaking, the more focuses, the merrier in my opinion! I love to be balancing different priorities within my day (lucky for me, that is literally a mini synopsis of our LIFE at Relier).

So here’s the stuff you really came for – the daily run down of moi:

1.     Google Meet with Lauren: First up, Lauren and I jump on a google meet to fill each other in on our lives, update each other on info we have received from brands regarding new roles and candidate management, and plan how we will have a smashing week. Communication within a small business is key. Being unbiased, I think we nail it. Ahead of our meets, I get ready for the day, prep my skin and slip into my comfy WFH outfit. I am also always a coffee desperado at this time of morn. During this meet, my to-do list fills up and I have a clear outline of my working day (or week) ahead.

2.     LinkedIn LinkedIn LinkedIn!  My BESTEST friend in the world – she brings me so much joy and is always there for me (lollll). LinkedIn is open straight after logging off with Lauren. I usually spend a couple of hours chatting to candidates about roles and checking in on their pathways. I also spend a bit of time looking into articles on my newsfeed which align to me (to share – because the algorithm is king and I want to feature in YOURS) and sharing new roles from our job board on my personal feed. PS. This is a plug for you to go add me on LinkedIn – really hoping you’re picking up what I’m putting down, sista.

3.     Creating EDM’s and updating our job board  Those cute JOB BOARD emails you get in your inbox from us, a lot of the time are carefully curated by moi (if you aren’t signed up to our uber-cool members-only job board already, this. Is. your. sign). Around lunch time is when I get stuck into updating that JOB BOARD both on the website and on our email platform. I’m ready to HIT YOU UP, you job seeker you. At this time, I also pull together ideas for informative posts for our gram and draft up blogs just like this beauty.

4.     Catch up with candidates  After a classic marketing pow-wow, I revert back to either LinkedIn or my emails to catch up with candidates on their job-hunting process and application progressions. I keep track of my candidates' (aka. you, cute face) in a my personal talent pool. The pool flows with sparkling fresh sea water and gives you an instant tan, perfect skin and leads you to your dream role, so you should totally join me… (no guarantees about the skin and tan, but the third perk is a high-chance of MAKING IT RAIN).

In all seriousness though, tracking candidates in my talent pool is super important. I check in with my database to be sure I’m sharing role opportunities with the right people, each and every week. This part of my day is for sure a highlight. Nothing makes me more excited than hearing how a candidate is going in a role we placed them in. Around this time usually is when I get stuck into reference checks and resume screening …

5.     Interview or phone screen candidates  On the back end of my talent pool management and Linkedin networking, I will typically conduct phone calls with candidates who have applied for roles with us and schedule in video interviews. While we much prefer the face-to-face interaction at Relier (helloooooo, sweet sweet caffeine and sweet, sweet you) we adapt and pivot to suit this gorgeous (read: annoying) pandemic world.  I also tend to spend way too much time on the phone to candidates. I'm a self-professed serial chatter.

6.     Check Instagram analytics  I’m well on my way to becoming the Hootsuite Kween – this is what we use to track our Instagram analytics. This tool is essential for me as it shows what kind of posts you guys love and want to see more of. With this info, I aim to plan around what kind of content is best for you on our Instagram and brainstorm the ultimate gram-plan for our gram-fan with the lady in pink, Lauren.

And there you have it! A typical day in the life of the one and only Relier Recruitment and Marketing Assistant. I hope this blog gave you a bit more insight of the structures and responsibilities of a role like mine. If you’re feeling inspired, hit me up. Like I said, I love a serial chat and my talent pool is literally waiting for you.

If you're planning a move from shop floor and screaming 'GET ME TO THE OFFICE' – stay tuned for more blogs and posts as part of our upcoming (and aptly named) GET ME TO THE OFFICE Series.

Love always,
