TO BRAND

OR

TO ROLE TITLE?

That is the question.

When it comes to your next opportunity, is your personal brand alignment or the job title more important?

We say it’s different for everyone based on your career stage.

The earlier you are in your career, the more important it is for you to build a portfolio of experience with brands with good marketplace perception. This doesn’t always mean culture perception, rather, it’s important to work for brands who are known for innovation, marketplace share, strategic leaders and mentors and more.

As we work our way across the jungle gym that is our career, we start to think more about title and exposure. The more experienced you are, the less it becomes about what the brand can do for you, but rather, what you can do for the brand.

If you’re stuck somewhere in the middle, consider, is this a brand you can make a difference in? Are there mentors in that business that can impact your learning? Will this brand diversify your experience or solidify your niche? And which of those two things is more important to your end goal right now?

At the end of the day it really comes down to what you ant to get out of your career. Think about where you see your career taking you in five or ten years.
