Meet our new gorgy, Jess Shannon

A year ago, we launched our little business and two weeks later, a pandemic hit… which I absolutely loved for me. I spent the first 6-months mapping out my contingency plan. What’s my backup here? How long can I take this risk for? How soon will I need to start the job hunt of my own? This is not safe! This is really scary!

Fast-forward one year and here we are - business is thriving and most excitingly, we’ve welcomed our first ever team member, Jess Shannon.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

So why Jess?

I truly was inundated with applicants for the Relier role. It took me by surprise that there were so many beauties out there wanting to join this small biz of mine. I received more applicants for the Relier role than I have for any other vacancy I’ve shared… but one special lady had stolen my heart long ago.

I chose Jess as my perfect pair for this role because of one key reason: she was brave enough to ask me to jump on a networking call with her when she wasn’t actually job searching herself. That’s right. Jess asked me to connect. Way back in August last year, she loved the steps I had taken in my career trajectory and wanted to chat about how she could achieve the same.

This was special. It was not only a huge compliment for me, but Jess had that twinkle in her eye when we caught up. We laughed, found common interests and there was an instant connection. This bold move Jess made is what lead me to believe she was the candidate I just could not go past for the role. After all, recruitment is all about networking. I knew if Jess was brave enough to ask to network with me, she would do a killer job of authentically doing so with our candidates all over Australia.

What did Jess’s first day look like?

Our lil lady flew in from Sydney and kicked off with a coffee date at Stable, a favourite spot of mine in Tugun.

We ducked in to my bestie’s studio for a quick photo shoot (how divine does she look!) and then off to the home office for some Relier training.

Break time looked like delicious prawns & cocktails by the sea at my favourite long-lunch destination, the Tropic.
We then grabbed coffee on the run and finished the day with some phone interviews and more training.

Jess is now based in Sydney and on the networking bandwagon already, reaching out to her own retail network to discuss the exciting new roles we launched with a new Aus Designer client last week.

Why do you love retail?

Mainly because of the people I meet - both working and serving, relationships you build with clients, brands and employees can take you so far in life

Celeb dinner - living or dead - who would you take for a dinner date?

Would have to be Michelle Obama! I’m reading her book at the moment, she’s a real queen

Your favourite Sydney coffee spot?

Mayflower in Darlinghurst, or Rollas in Manly! Their stores look like an Instagram page… I’m a sucker for those kinds of cafes

Favourite brands to wear?

My favourites at the moment are Bec and Bridge, Sir the label and more recently Zara! (They always have some gems)

Get to know our lil’ Jess a lil’ better…

Who are your picks for fashion brands to watch this year?

Definitely Third Form, Anna Quan and With Jean!

What’s the weirdest interview question you’ve ever been asked?

Probably what song or movie best describes your work ethic, of course I choose 9-5 by Dolly Parton

Describe your personal style?

My style changes a lot, recently I’ve been loving the 90’s trends of baguette bags and frameless sunnies returning - I’ve been really into my flared jeans and corsets!

We are so thrilled to have this beautiful lil’ lady on board with the Relier team. Sydney, you’ll be hearing from her, and yes, we accept bribery in the form of croissants and cocktails.
