job hopping
Is it hot or not?
We recruiters typically like to see candidates commit to a minimum of 18 months per role & brand. But thanks to COVID, that tenure hasn’t always been easy to lock down.
ONE
First things first, if the workplace didn’t do good things for your mental health, your tenure is irrelevant. We are strong believers in work being good for the soul and feel that you shouldn’t force yourself to stay somewhere that is not benefiting your mental wellbeing. STAT!
TWO
Second things second, if most of your tenures are nice and juicy (say 2 years+) then one shorty (6 months or less) is not much a big problemo. We see it’s an anomaly and can let it slide.
THREE
Third things third, we have a problem on our hands if most roles on your resume are less than 18 months in tenure. We cute recruiters like this as a minimum and think it's a healthy balance.
FOUR
Fourth things fourth, if you’ve got anything 6 months or less, prepare for questions! Any good interviewer will fire a why your way. Strike a balance between honesty and graciousness if culture was your issue.
FIVE
And finally, if you had a role for 3-months or less, does it really have a place on your resume? You don’t need to put everything on there (it’s a summary, not the full story!). We say anything too short and sharp should be tastefully left off. Unless it was a killer role and there’s a positive ‘move-on’ story at the end of it, it may not reflect well on you.
