SECURING YOUR FIRST OFFICE ROLE

Are you an entry level candidate looking for your first move into the fashion support office space? It’s time to get to know the role hierarchy that lies ahead of you. Applying for a position at the right level is key to scoring an interview.

The general hierarchy of role title from junior to senior follows this consecutive flow - Assistant > Coordinator > Specialist or Executive > Manager > Senior Manager > Head of > Director.

Where we see many entry level candidates go wrong is applying for roles at a Coordinator or Specialist level without any Assistant level experience.

A coordinator level candidate usually brings 2-3 years of experience to a position. Whilst coordinator titles can sometimes be an entry level role, in most circumstances this title requires like for like experience. So, if you are kickstarting your role search as a university graduate or retailer, be sure to apply for Assistant level roles and nothing too much further outside of this orbit unless the position description states otherwise.
