common resume mistakes
What NOT to include in your resume:
Your resume is an employer's first impression of your professional persona and must never be underestimated. Luckily for you, your favourite fashion recruiters are here to talk about what to avoid when it comes to your pretty piece of paper, that'll ensure you score that desired interview.
First things first, looks do matter. No, your resume doesn't need to be adorned with all the bells and whistles, but you must ensure the formatting is sleek, on-trend and easy to read. That means avoiding outdated fonts (aka Comic Sans) and ensuring it has a professional feel with smaller typefaces. On that note, keeping it concise is a must for competitive roles. Interviewers will be filing through resume upon resume, so exceeding 2-3 pages is a big no-no. If you're unsure of what to cut, there is no need to include ALL of your previous accomplishments and employment history. Simply include what's relevant to the role.
Although an important discussion point, mentioning anything to do with salary expectations on your resume can send the wrong message to the employer, not to mention potentially pigeonhole you into a lower pay bracket! Salary negotiation is a whole other ball game that is best to avoid until the interview/offer stage of your application. With that being said, it is highly unlikely you'll make it to that next step if you haven't proofread your resume! Mistakes stand out like a sore thumb and are such an avoidable write-off.
